Sources & Credits
My portfolio is mainly comprised of digital collages. I use many photographs that I take myself but frequently incorporate material that I find on the web, and in magazines or books. Often the element is transformed in some way so it may be unrecognizable, but I would like to give acknowledgements to original creators wherever I can. If you see something I have re-used and not acknowledged here please write me with details so I can update this page.
Thanks to NASA for space related image elements used frequently across the portfolio. The Hubble space telescope rocks!
The Rosebud annual from 1884 was used for several source images used in the Rosebud section.
For images in Diving Lessons I draw heavily on sketches found in an old book, “Swimming and Diving” by Sid G. Hedges. The illustrations are not clearly attributed, but some appear to be signed by a Harold G Plant and a Dorothy Besant.
The BLM protestors image used as part of “See the Stars” in the Aphorisms collection is cut from an AP Photo by Marcio Jose Sanchez.
The main background of “House on Fire” in the Aphorisms collection is derived from a Getty image found on the Scientific American website.
The business man image in “The child is father to the man” from the Aphorisms collection is cut from the painting “Son of Man” by Rene Magritte - knowing that is part of the “meaning” in my new image.
The two pictures on the wall in “At the Gallery” from the Prism World collection are photos I took of paintings by Jilly Hodgson and are reproduced as they look in real life (but much smaller!) with permission.
Multiple image elements used in “Dan Dare Homage #1”, “Dan Dare Homage #2# and “Star Pool” (from the Inspired by Toys collection) are based on the work of British illustrator Frank Hampson who created the character. These pictures are intended as a deliberate celebration of his work.
Tommy McNeeley was the photographer for the pride of lions in “Pride Comes Before a Fall” from in the Aphorisms collection
Kaitlyn Hawpe was the photographer for the shark in “Risk” from the Aphorisms collection
Julius Yis was the photographer for the camel in “Last Straw” from the Aphorisms collection
Moriah Wolfe took the aerial photograph I used as a background in “Mother of Invention” from the Aphorisms collection
I heavily used Balaji Malliswamy’s picture of a potter’s hands in “Practice Makes Perfect” and “Haste Makes Waste” from the Aphorisms collection
For “Weeping Alone” in the Aphorisms collection the willow tree background is from a photograph by Zhenya and the little boy was taken from an image by Indonesian photographer Arwan Sutanto
The tree background for “Ideas Spread” was taken from a photograph by Veerterzy
Thanks to Mihai Avram and Carlo Pentimalli for the fish in “Scardy Cat” which were pulled from their photos
The graphics in “Rise Up” in the Aphorisms collection are based on an illustration found on Wikipedia but originally from the US Army Field Manual No. 3-21.220 describing how a parachutist should land.
